ChoreStar Terms of Service

Last updated: June 24, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Cloud Migration Consulting LLC ("ChoreStar," "we," "us," or "our") governing your use of the ChoreStar app and website (the "Service"). ChoreStar is a family chore and points tracker, designed for families and offered as a child-directed service.

Please read these Terms and our Privacy Policy carefully. By creating an account, checking the "I agree" box at sign-up, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

If you are setting up the Service for a child: you must be the child's parent or legal guardian, be at least 18 years old, and you agree to these Terms on behalf of yourself and each child you add to your family.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By accessing or using ChoreStar, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. These Terms apply to all users of the Service, including parents, co-parents, and children who sign in to a family.

🔞 2. Eligibility and parental consent (COPPA)

ChoreStar is intended to be set up and managed by adults on behalf of their families.

  • Adult account holders. To create a parent (or co-parent) account, you must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
  • Children do not create accounts. Children do not register, and do not provide an email address or password. A parent sets up each child's profile, and a child signs in only by scanning a QR code generated by the app, which contains a login token tied to that child's profile.
  • Parental consent. By adding a child's profile and the limited information described in our Privacy Policy (a name or nickname, optional age, and an emoji avatar the parent chooses), you provide verifiable parental consent under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for ChoreStar to collect and use that information to operate the Service.
  • You are responsible for your family. You are responsible for supervising your children's use of the Service and for all activity that occurs under your account and family.

If you do not agree to provide consent for a child, do not add that child to your family.

🔑 3. Accounts and security

  • You must provide accurate information when you register and keep it up to date. We verify your email address with a one-time code at sign-up.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password and login confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at accounts@cloudmigrationconsulting.net if you suspect unauthorized use.
  • Co-parents. A family owner may invite up to two co-parents by email. Co-parents become parent members of the same family and can manage chores, rewards, and family activity. The owner is responsible for who they invite and may remove a co-parent at any time, which revokes that co-parent's access to the family.
  • Keep your children's QR login codes private. Anyone who scans a child's QR code can sign in as that child.

4. Points and rewards have no cash value

ChoreStar tracks chores and an in-app points system that families use to recognize completed chores and redeem family-defined rewards.

Points are not money. Points, rewards, and redemptions exist only inside your family in the app. They have no monetary or cash value, are not currency, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be bought, sold, or transferred outside of the Service. Any real-world reward a parent chooses to give is solely a matter between the family and is not provided, guaranteed, or facilitated by ChoreStar.

📜 5. License to use the app

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to download and use the ChoreStar app and website for your family's personal, non-commercial use. You agree that:

  • We and our licensors retain all rights, title, and interest in and to the Service, including all software, designs, text, graphics, logos, and the ChoreStar name and marks.
  • You will not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse engineer, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except where such restriction is prohibited by law.
  • If you obtained the app through the Google Play Store, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service and any applicable end-user license terms required by Google.

🚫 6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Break any law or infringe anyone's rights.
  • Upload or enter content that is unlawful, harmful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate — especially given that ChoreStar is a child-directed service.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to another family's data, our systems, or any account.
  • Disrupt, overload, probe, or interfere with the Service or its security, including automated scraping or sending excessive requests.
  • Use the Service to collect personal information about children other than your own.

You are responsible for the names, nicknames, and other content you enter for your family. We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

💳 7. Paid options, billing, and cancellation

ChoreStar's current version is free and supported by advertising. We may also offer an optional paid upgrade that removes ads — for example a one-time purchase or a subscription. Where a paid upgrade is available, its price is set through Google Play and shown to you in your local currency on the purchase screen before you buy; it may vary by country and may change over time, and Google Play always displays the current price before you confirm. The billing terms below apply to any such paid option you choose.

  • Payments go through Google Play. Subscriptions purchased on Android are processed and managed by Google Play Billing. Google — not ChoreStar — charges your payment method, manages renewals, and handles the payment sheet. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
  • Automatic renewal (subscriptions only). A subscription renews automatically at the then-current price for the chosen period until you cancel; a one-time purchase does not renew. You authorize Google to charge the applicable amount on each subscription renewal.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel anytime through your Google Play account subscriptions settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep ad-free access until the end of the current paid period.
  • Refunds. Refunds, where available, are handled by Google in accordance with the Google Play refund policies. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and we do not separately provide refunds.
  • Promo codes. Promo codes that unlock a discounted rate are subject to availability, redemption limits, and may be withdrawn or changed at any time. A promo code only determines which Google Play offer you are eligible for; Google still processes the charge.
  • Purchases require a parent. All purchases are made through the parent account and behind the parent's device/Google account controls. Children cannot make purchases in the app.

📣 8. Advertising

The free tier of ChoreStar shows ads. Because ChoreStar is a child-directed service, ads are tagged as child-directed and for users under the age of consent, are limited to a maximum content rating of "G", and are served as non-personalized ads (no behavioral or interest-based targeting of you or your children). Subscribing removes ads for your whole family. Advertising is delivered through Google's mobile ads platform; the ads themselves come from third parties and we do not control their specific content beyond the safety settings described here and in our Privacy Policy.

🛠️ 9. Service availability and changes

We work to keep ChoreStar available, but we provide the Service "as is" and may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. The Service runs on third-party hosting (including Render and a Neon-hosted database), and brief delays or downtime can occur — for example, our free hosting tier may take a short time to "wake up" after periods of inactivity. We are not liable for unavailability outside our reasonable control.

⚠️ 10. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that data will never be lost. You use the Service at your own risk, and you are responsible for keeping your own records of anything important to your family.

🛡️ 11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChoreStar and its owners, operators, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) USD $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

🤝 12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ChoreStar and its owners and operators from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of another, including in connection with content you or your children enter.

🚪 13. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and may request deletion of your account and all associated data as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including license restrictions, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will survive.

⚖️ 14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts located in Riverside County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except where applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere. Nothing here limits any non-waivable consumer-protection rights you have under the laws of your place of residence.

🔄 15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and you may request deletion of your account.

📑 16. Other terms

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
  • Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
